  • What is Poliwood Composite decking made of?
    A. Poliwood comes from a proprietary formulation of 60% reclaimed wood fibers, 30% recycled HDPE plastics such as detergent bottles and milk cartons and 10% additives to assist with its UV, scratch resistance, fire resistance and other elements. Each board is further protected by a 360-degree Supershield wrap. This ultra-durable composition combined with natural wood colours and grain yields a composite deck that boasts both beauty and strength.

  • What is HDPE?
    A. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has an extra high strength-to-density ratio and is one of the most commonly used plastics — typically found in more rigid products like milk gallons, cups and water bottles. Its strength acts as a barrier against moisture, and resists insects, rot and other chemicals. Easily recyclable and free from harmful emissions, the use of HDPE results in decking boards that are stronger, ultra-durable and more sustainable than composites with non-HDPE plastics.

  • How do I clean and maintain my Deck?
    A. Poliwood decking is designed to withstand the daily wear and tear of outdoor living, but we do recommended cleaning your deck at least twice a year to remove pollen, organic debris, dirt or stains. A broom or sweeper works better than a hose and is a much greener cleaning method. If you find accumulated dirt or grime, use soap and water and a scrub brush and simply rinse off with water. More detailed information can be found on our Care & Maintenance page at www.poliwood.com.au

  • How do I build a deck?
    A. Every deck will have its own unique requirements. In order to make your project a success, please follow the official Poliwood decking installation guide which can be found on our website.

  • Can I power wash Poliwood decking?
    A. It is recommended that only professionals use a pressure washer with wide fan tips, at low pressures. If done improperly, extreme concentrated high pressure will damage any composite deck material. Exercise caution and check with a professional as improper use could lead to damage or loss of your warranty coverage.

  • Will heat from grills or fire pits harm Poliwood decking?
    A. Not usually, but dripping grease can cause stains, so it is recommended a mat is placed under your grill. Improperly installed fire features and fire pits can cause damage from direct exposure to flames or excessive radiated heat. Exercise proper caution when designing, installing and using fire features.

  • How much ventilation is required under a deck?
    A. Make sure there is adequate and unobstructed airflow under the deck to prevent excessive water absorption. Improve drainage or grade flat areas where standing water may gather. For decks with limited ventilation, 300mm of clear ventilation is required.

  • Can I put Poliwood decking directly on a concrete patio?
    A. All decking products should ideally maintain a minimum of 50mm between the bottom of the deck substructure/joists and the ground. The deck design must allow unrestricted airflow under at least half of its perimeter to permit adequate ventilation.

  • How many colours & profiles are there?
    A. There are 3 colours to choose from, they are Oldwood, Redwood & Charcoal. There are also 3 decking profiles available they are hollow decking board, fascia board & perimeter/stairs board.

  • How do I fix down my Poliwood decking boards?
    A. With Poliwood decking you have the choice to use either a 5mm or 1mm concealed fixing clip to secure the board in place. We do not recommend face fixing the boards as face fixing does not allow for movement in the boards and can cause cracks to arise.

  • Does Poliwood Splinter
    A. The Composition of Poliwood products meant they will not splinter; this makes it ideal for pets and small children.

  • Can Poliwood be used by the ocean
    A. Yes it can be, due to its makeup it is unaffected by the salt in the air.

  • How can I melt ice off my Poliwood Deck?
    A. Calcium chloride or rock salt can be used to melt ice and snow on Poliwood decking. Care should be taken to rinse off when the weather makes this practical. Use plastic shovels (never metal) to remove snow and ice. A metal shovel can possibly chip the decking surface and void the warranty.

  • Can I sand my Poliwood Deck?
    A. Poliwood Decking should never be sanded. Sanding will change the appearance and protective qualities of the Poliwood material and will void the warranty with respect to any condition caused by sanding

  • Is Poliwood made from Recycled material?
    A. Poliwood decking is made from 90% recycled materials, including reclaimed timber and sawdust as well as recycled plastic from many common household items, such as the plastic overwrap on packaging for paper towels and toilet paper, dry cleaner bags, newspaper bags, grocery and shopping bags.

  • Will Poliwood products weather (fade/change colour)?
    A. Poliwood has a full 360-degree protective capping technology that provides superior fade and stain resistance.

  • Is Poliwood Slippery when wet?
    A. No, Poliwood is manufactured to have a none slip finish on the face of the decking board. It has excellent slip resistance in both wet and dry conditions. Poliwood achieved a R10 slip rating.

  • What length sizes does Poliwood come in?
    A. Poliwood has the longest decking board length on the Australian market with our hollow decking board being available in a 5.7m length. This means less joins on your deck which makes for a better cleaner finished deck.
